The Alexander Central Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Freedom Patriots at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Alexander Central is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Alexander Central suffered their biggest loss since November 28, 2023 on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 65-42 walloping at the hands of Watauga. While losing is never fun, Alexander Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Watauga is ranked 134th).
Alexander Central's loss came about despite a quality game from Chad Lasher, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Garison Millsaps, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Freedom pushed their score all the way to 64 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The game between Freedom and Watauga wasn't particularly close, with Freedom falling 78-64. Freedom has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alexander Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Alexander Central lost to Freedom on the road by a decisive 62-46 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Alexander Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
