The Eagle Mountain Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Sanger Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eagle Mountain comes in on five and Sanger on three.
Eagle Mountain proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 17) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Decatur. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since February 21st.
Ashlyn Eggleton made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Hawthorne, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.
Sanger came out on top against Bonham on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Indians put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Indians have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Eagle Mountain, Sanger also got a great game from a two-way player: Abby Chapmond. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Chapmond has posted over her last six matchups. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Sophia Troegle was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Zoe Bassham was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Sanger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Eagle Mountain's record is now 15-7-1. As for Sanger, their record now sits at 11-8-3.
Sanger's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Eagle Mountain has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Sanger, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Eagle Mountain keep running through batters, or will the Indians buck the trend?
