Basketball Game Preview: Green Canyon Wolves vs. Mountain Crest Mustangs

Green Canyon has gone 8-2 against Mountain Crest recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Green Canyon Wolves are taking a road trip to square off against the Mountain Crest Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Green Canyon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Mountain Crest likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Green Canyon made easy work of Bear River and carried off a 73-47 victory. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Bears are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Easton Stokes was a one-man wrecking crew for Green Canyon as he went 6 of 7 en route to 19 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Stokes a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Crane, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 17 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, Mountain Crest lost to Logan on the road by a 69-51 margin on Friday. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Grizzlies 18-13 in the first quarter.

Green Canyon pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Mountain Crest, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Green Canyon took their victory against Mountain Crest in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 74-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Green Canyon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
