The Roxana Shells's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 49-24 walloping at the hands of Richland County. While losing is never fun, Roxana can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while Richland County is ranked 63rd).
Roxana lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Michael Silas, who scored six points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Silas has scored all season. Evan Wells was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds.
Roxana has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Richland County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roxana won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Chester at 10:30 a.m. on December 28th. Richland County is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Effingham at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Effingham is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
