Baseball Recap: Sand Creek's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Whiteford, Sand Creek was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Camden-Frontier Redskins as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Aggies' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Reid Hulett made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Sand Creek's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 3-1 (and 9-13 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Andon Sutherland was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Sand Creek is undefeated when Sutherland posts two or more runs, but 7-14 otherwise. Ivan Wilkinson was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Sand Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Camden-Frontier only posted an OBP of .355.

The win snapped Sand Creek's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-14 record. As for Camden-Frontier, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Sand Creek has already played their next game (against Napoleon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Camden-Frontier, they will head out on the road to face off against Waldron at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
