For the first time this season, Central will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Clovis West Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Central's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against St. Joseph by a score of 4-0. That four run margin sets a new team best for the Grizzlies this season.
Adan Flores was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three hits, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
Flores wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marcelo Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Clovis West waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Warriors.
Like Central, Clovis West also got a great game from a two-way player: Peyton Miscione. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Miscione was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple.
In other pitching news, Clovis West got a great performance from Wyatt Goodrich as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Goodrich has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Raygoza, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Clovis West pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Central, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-4.
Central suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to Clovis West in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Central have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
