Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Mt. Vernon Wildcats, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They suffered a rough 52-28 defeat at the hands of the Pioneers on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mt. Vernon in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Arlissa Sharber, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds, and Cora Bell, who scored six points along with six rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of Mt. Vernon's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mt. Vernon has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season. As for Boonville, their win bumped their record up to 4-19.
Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Boonville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Gibson Southern will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
