Jackson has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Mary Persons Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Jackson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
Jackson's game was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 52-40 to Upson-Lee.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kevan Gray, who scored ten points. Josh Goodrum was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Mary Persons pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Upson-Lee. Mary Persons has not had much luck with Upson-Lee recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Mary Persons saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Nemo Jones, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Odoms, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Jackson's record now sits at 2-14. As for Mary Persons, they bumped their record down to 4-15 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Saturday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Jackson have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 30.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Mary Persons struggles in that department as they've only made 35.1% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Jackson was able to grind out a solid victory over Mary Persons in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 81-73. Will Jackson repeat their success, or does Mary Persons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
