The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Centauri Falcons had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Montezuma-Cortez fell 56-45 to Centauri. That's two games in a row now that Montezuma-Cortez has lost by exactly 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Montezuma-Cortez lost, one person who can't be blamed is Savannah Haselroth. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with three blocks. Another player making a difference was Sariah Jackson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Centauri's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braelyn Tucker, who scored 11 points along with six assists and five steals. Tucker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joselyn McCarroll, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Montezuma-Cortez and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Centauri, their victory was their 16th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montezuma-Cortez will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Pagosa Springs at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Pagosa Springs is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games. Centauri won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Alamosa at 5:30 p.m. on January 20th.
