The Greenville Green Wave will challenge the Sidney Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greenville is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Greenville proved they can win big on Monday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Piqua. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Green Wave have posted since August 25th.
Greenville got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 29-31, 20-25, 25-23, 15-9.
Meanwhile, Sidney suffered their biggest defeat since September 9th on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to Tippecanoe. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
The final score came out to 25-13, 25-18, 25-17.
Despite the loss, Sidney saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ahniyah Wilson had ten digs and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Marly Coons, who had six digs and five assists.
Sidney's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Greenville, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Greenville has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Sidney struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
