After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Southwest SD, the Mar Vista Mariners were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They walked away with a 60-51 victory over El Capitan. For Mar Vista, this counts as revenge for the 67-63 defeat El Capitan walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Mar Vista found their leader in underclassman Darius Montgomery, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jhaziel Corporan Catano, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Mar Vista is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for El Capitan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mar Vista will take on San Diego Jewish Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. El Capitan and Valley Center will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Valley Center's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
