Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mercer County

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mercer County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the West Jessamine Colts. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Ava Musick made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched eight innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Musick was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Jaley Bowman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Mia Floro was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Mercer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Mercer County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for West Jessamine, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercer County will head out to square off against Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for West Jessamine, they will head out on the road to challenge Pulaski County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
