IA Northern recap October 8, 2013
Davis Winebarger and Julio Meza provided fans with a highlight when they connected against South Tahoe. The connection was good for 76 yards, the longest such play in IA Northern this season.
Churchill County extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sparks, 47-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Greenwave.
Hunter Triplett threw for 271 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 16-25 with 1 interception.
Skylar Williams was a passing and rushing force as Fernley topped Wooster. He completed 6 passes for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 196 yards. Williams' favorite target this week was Kevin Montgomery, who caught 3 passes for 104 yards.
Austin Fletcher was a force in the backfield as Dayton bested the Vikings.
Montgomery was the best wideout in the league this week as the Vaqueros defeated the Colts. Montgomery tallied 3 receptions for 104 yards. Anfernee Sloan helped Fernley's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 53 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Triplett of Wooster is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,010. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Tyler Bagby. The Churchill County star has 11 catches for 385 yards.
A big matchup in IA Northern this week will be when Churchill County takes on Spring Creek. At the moment, Brooke Hill's team is in first, while the Spartans are in seventh.
South Tahoe moved up to 60 from 858 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Kevin Hennessee's team climbed the ranks as a result of falling to the Dust Devils 42-33.
