The Ingleside Mustangs will face off against the Cuero Gobblers on Saturday. Ingleside will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Ingleside is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Everything went their way against Robstown as they made off with an 11-4 victory. 11 seems to be a good number for the Mustangs as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kylee Ward was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ingleside got a massive performance out of Dara Davila, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Davila has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Launa Walker, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Ingleside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cuero hadn't done well against Fredericksburg recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Gobblers came out on top against the Billies by a score of 5-1. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Like Ingleside, Cuero also got a great game from a two-way player: Natalie Taylor. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Natalyn Milliorn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Reagan Reitz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Ingleside's victory bumped their record up to 24-13. As for Cuero, their win bumped their record up to 17-12-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ingleside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Cuero struggles in that department as they've averaged .429. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ingleside's way against Cuero in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, as Ingleside made off with a 12-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
