Mountain Vista and Chaparral are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles will take on the Chaparral Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 22 contests -- so hopefully Chaparral likes a good challenge.
Mountain Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Ralston Valley, who was ranked fourth at the time (Mountain Vista was ranked eighth). Mountain Vista came out on top against Ralston Valley by a score of 67-58 on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Oliver Junker and Cal Baskind were among the main playmakers for Mountain Vista as the former dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 boards and the latter went 6-for-10 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Baskind has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Rooney, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 14 points.
Meanwhile, Chaparral waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They blew past the Mustangs, posting an 86-26 victory. That 60 point margin sets a new team best for the Wolverines this season.
Mountain Vista better keep an eye on Devon Brown. He was instrumental in Chaparral's win, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in field goal percentage (78%). Christian Williams was another key player, going 6-for-9 on his way to 13 points.
Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They are a perfect 4-0 when they hit their own glass that hard.
Mountain Vista's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-5. As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 19-3.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Mountain Vista has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.2% of their three-pointers per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've made 36.6% of their three-pointers this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mountain Vista barely slipped by Chaparral in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 69-68. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Vista since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
