Baseball Recap: Pinson Valley's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Pinson Valley came into Monday's game having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Midfield Patriots a 19-0 shutout on Monday. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Aaron Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Pinson Valley is 2-1 when Brown posts two or more runs, but 0-11 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Marcelo Gabarron looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

Back at the plate, Jaylon Sharpe was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Pinson Valley's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jamison Green, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3.

Pinson Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .862. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Pinson Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-12. As for Midfield, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Pinson Valley and Midfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. Pinson Valley will take on Douglas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 194 places (334 vs. 140). Similarly, Midfield (ranked 378th) will meet Altamont (ranked 93rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
