The Episcopal Knights will head out to challenge the Houston Christian Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Episcopal will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Episcopal proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out St. Agnes Academy 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since March 28, 2024.
Meanwhile, Houston Christian got the win against First Baptist Christian on Thursday by a conclusive 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Millie Metz made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Houston Christian let Maddie Pickett and Yazmine Johnson run wild. Pickett went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Johnson went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Pickett has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Emmy Koehler, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Houston Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.
Houston Christian has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Episcopal, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3.
Episcopal couldn't quite get it done against Houston Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
