Baseball Recap: Fitzgerald Has No Trouble Against Center Line

Fitzgerald hadn't done well against Center Line recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Spartans have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Thomas Baranski made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Baranski wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leiland McCallep, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. McCallep is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Jaiden Asocar was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Fitzgerald has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Center Line, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fitzgerald will head out to face off against Clawson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Center Line, they will square off against Hazel Park at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
