The Honey Grove Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Tom Bean Tomcats at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Honey Grove is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Tom Bean in Texas (Honey Grove is ranked 443rd, while Tom Bean is ranked 1002nd).
Even though Honey Grove has not done well against Sam Rayburn recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Honey Grove managed a 39-34 victory over Sam Rayburn. The win made it back-to-back wins for Honey Grove.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Tom Bean, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-32 loss to Wolfe City on Friday. Tom Bean has struggled against Wolfe City recently, as their contest on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Tom Bean saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Allie Hickman, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Capps, who scored eight points.
Honey Grove has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Tom Bean, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Honey Grove was able to grind out a solid win over Tom Bean in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 40-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Honey Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
