Valley hasn't had much luck against Johnson recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vikings will head out to face off against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Valley turned things around against Burbank on Wednesday. They blew past the Titans 24-10. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Johnson made easy work of Foothill on Thursday and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won seven in a row.
Anissa Zavala was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Johnson got a massive performance out of Naomi Quiroz, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Quiroz has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kianna Jackson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
The win got Johnson back to even at 9-9. As for Valley, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-9.
Valley might still be hurting after the 21-0 defeat they got from Johnson when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
