The Holly Springs Golden Hawks will face off against the Apex Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Holly Springs has three straight wins, Apex has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Holly Springs took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Broughton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Golden Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Capitals 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Hawks have posted since March 20th.
Caleb Renn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Noah Rhoades was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as he's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Liam McNierney was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Apex suffered their biggest loss since April 26, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Green Hope, falling 8-2.
Apex saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JADEN GAYLES, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Apex's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Holly Springs, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Holly Springs has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Holly Springs might still be hurting after the 11-3 loss they got from Apex in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
