The Loveland Red Wolves were the 65-63 winner over the Broomfield Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Loveland took a 61-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Broomfield on Friday. While losing is never fun, Loveland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Broomfield is ranked 40th).
Despite the loss, Loveland still got an impressive performance from Zayne Desouza, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Desouza hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Trey Olsen, who scored nine points along with two blocks.
Broomfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Effland, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Lapham, who scored 12 points.
Loveland dropped their record down to 7-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Broomfield, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-6.
Loveland won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mountain View at 6:30 p.m. on February 10th. Loveland will be up against Mountain View's rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.63 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for Broomfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Erie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Broomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.
