Rich Township is 0-10 against Kankakee since May of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Raptors are taking a road trip to face off against the Kays at 4:30 p.m. Rich Township will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Rich Township couldn't beat Crete-Monee on Thursday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the fourth inning. The Raptors took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors.
Ezri Adami made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasidy Whitaker, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kankakee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Thornton Fractional South 11-1 on Wednesday. Considering the Kays have won 13 contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylee Cunningham was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Kankakee let Kylie Glogowski and Calleigh Moody run wild. Glogowski went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Moody went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Glogowski has posted since back in April. Lillian Landis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Kankakee hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Kankakee has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rich Township, their loss dropped their record down to 9-16.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rich Township hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Kankakee struggles in that department as they've averaged .382. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rich Township suffered a grim 20-1 defeat to Kankakee in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Raptors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
