The New Covenant Gryphons will head out on the road to face off against the Veritas School Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. New Covenant has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, New Covenant was able to grind out a solid victory over North Cross, taking the game 38-27. Given New Covenant's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while North Cross is ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brielle Walker was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of New Covenant's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Libbey, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Veritas School over Amelia Academy in every quarter on their way to victory two weeks ago. Veritas School blew past Amelia Academy 46-20. That 26 points margin sets a new team best for Veritas School this season.
New Covenant's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5. As for Veritas School, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
New Covenant strolled past Veritas School in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 38-23. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Covenant since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
