Baseball Recap: Titusville Triumphs

With a playoff win on the line, Titusville rose to the challenge on Monday. They never let the Cocoa Tigers get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Terriers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Jesse Decter made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Titusville is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-12 otherwise. Decter was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.

In other pitching news, Ethan Lynskey looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Nolan Edwards was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Titusville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Chase Hill, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Titusville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Titusville's victory bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Cocoa, they are on a 34-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-20.

Coming up, Titusville will face off against Astronaut at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Terriers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the War Eagles have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. Cocoa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
