The Oswego East Wolves will take on the York Dukes in a tournament on Friday. Oswego East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Oswego East was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Plainfield South on Thursday. The Wolves put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 14-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolves considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Nora Evans was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Olivia Owles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Oswego East hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plainfield South struck out six times.
Meanwhile, York came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Lemont HS by a score of 6-3.
Sophia Lanciloti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexandra ElEtr-Garofalo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily McNichols, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
York's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Oswego East, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oswego East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
