Phoenix Day School for the Deaf was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 15th to 11th in VI Section III (8 Man). Earlier in the week, the Roadrunners triumphed over Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind 56-18.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Chandler Prep, 74-30. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Spartans.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's dynamic duo of Nick Smith and Matt Munsil proved tough for Chandler Prep to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 300 yards and six touchdowns and Munsil had 165 yards receiving. Ethan Wright helped Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's passing attack out by catching five balls for 108 yards.
Daniel Lopez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 334 yards on 25 carries as Salt River topped Duncan Aepli's team. Teammate Lorenzo Ruiz added to the ground attack by rushing for 148 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Nick Henderson of Joy Christian is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1489. He has also thrown 26 touchdowns. On the ground, the Eagles' Lopez has rushed for 1181 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Munsil. The Scottsdale Preparatory Academy star has 48 catches for 971 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Valley Lutheran and Bagdad. The Flames enters the game ranked seventh in the state, while the Sultans ranks sixth.
The Spartans' Munsil is only 29 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Rancho Solano Prep.
Valley Lutheran's Ketah Watson needs only five yards against Bagdad next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Watson has rushed for 995 yards on 80 carries so far this year.
The Eagles took down Gila Bend 66-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Henderson threw for 210 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 18 yards in the win.
