The Cholla Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 25 points or more this season. They blew past Flowing Wells, posting a 72-42 win on the road. Given Cholla's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Flowing Wells is ranked 285th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cholla was led to victory by Jerry Mendoza and Cyree Jenkins . Mendoza scored 12 points along with eight assists and seven steals, while Jenkins scored 27 points along with four steals. The matchup was Jenkins 's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Justin Manuel Jr. was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Flowing Wells saw an underclassman step up: Jose Cureses scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Nwaobi, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Cholla is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Flowing Wells, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
Cholla will head out on the road to face off against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Buena focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
