It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Ben Davis Giants had no problem doing just that on Friday. They had just enough and edged Center Grove out 37-34. The win was familiar territory for Ben Davis who now have nine in a row.
Ben Davis had a senior duo take command as Thomas Gotkowski threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns and Zane Skibinski picked up 134 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Skibinski was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 61 yards.
Another reason for the win was Ben Davis' imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Center Grove's QB won't forget Nehemiah Dau anytime soon given Dau sacked him twice.
Center Grove's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Coy, who picked up 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Cherry, who threw for 406 yards and three touchdowns.
Ben Davis pushed their record up to 12-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Center Grove, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-2.
Ben Davis will square off against Crown Point at 7:00 p.m. on November 25th. Crown Point is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Center Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
