The East Union Urchins will head out to take on the Nettleton Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as East Union comes in on four and Nettleton on eight.
East Union's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Wheeler as East Union made off with a 9-0 win. The Urchins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Lucy Cochran made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Cochran was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madi Robbins was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-3. Ali Cooper also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
East Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Nettleton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Tupelo on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted against the Golden Wave since March 18, 2022.
Bailey Payne spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Zion Seals, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Taylor, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Nettleton pushed their record up to 10-1-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for East Union, their record is now 8-1.
Both East Union and Nettleton just can't seem to miss. East Union has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Nettleton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Union was able to grind out a solid win over Nettleton in their previous matchup back in March of 2021, winning 6-2. Does East Union have another victory up their sleeve, or will Nettleton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
