The Tolono Unity Rockets will head out on the road to challenge the Charleston Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Tolono Unity is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Tolono Unity proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 14) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Newton get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory.
Lindy Bates made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenley Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Charleston let Mt. Zion stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Saturday but luckily Charleston prevailed anyway. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Braves.
Like Tolono Unity, Charleston also got a great game from a two-way player: Railyn Cox. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cox was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Lainie Keefer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Avery Beals was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Tolono Unity pushed their record up to 26-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Charleston, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9.
Tolono Unity skirted past Charleston 4-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
