The Lamar Vikings lost against the Bowie Volunteers back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Lamar fell just short of Bowie by a score of 31-29. Lamar has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gannon Carey and Trenton Yancey certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Carey rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, while Yancey picked up 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Bowie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Larry Nichols led the charge by throwing for 289 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt. Bowie also got a significant boost from Darrion Bowers, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 125 yards.
Lamar's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Bowie, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Lamar will be playing at home against South Grand Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully South Grand Prairie focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four last Friday. As for Bowie, they will head out on the road to face off against Martin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Martin is on a three-game streak of home wins, Bowie a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
