The Jefferson Saints waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They snuck past Englewood with a 46-40 win. This was payback for Jefferson, who suffered a 52-37 loss the last time these two teams met.
It was another big night for Shya Guzman, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. T Nutter was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonae Harris, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Harris is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Harkness, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Englewood, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
Jefferson will head out on the road to take on Bruce Randolph at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Englewood, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Arrupe Jesuit at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Arrupe Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Tuesday.
