Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Northwest Whitfield Bruins, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a serious blow against Stephenson on Saturday, falling 62-15. While losing is never fun, Northwest Whitfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Stephenson is ranked 89th).
Although Northwest Whitfield took the loss, they still got scores from Gavin Nuckolls and Hudson Gray.
Devin Ingram went supernova for Stephenson, rushing for 221 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Ingram hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Tyler Bercy was another key contributor, rushing for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Northwest Whitfield are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-0 Central and 8-3 Cedartown (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.3% over those games). As for Stephenson, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Northwest Whitfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Stephenson will look to defend their home field on Friday against Luella at 7:30 p.m.
