The Smyrna Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell to Boaz 55-49. The matchup was a 30-30 toss-up at halftime, but Smyrna was outscored by Boaz in the second.
Smyrna lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caleb Pastrana, who scored 16 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Pastrana scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jalylle Batey-roberts, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Smyrna's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Boaz, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season.
Smyrna will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McGavock at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Boaz's road trip will continue as they head out to face Oakwood Academy at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th. One thing working in Oakwood Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
