After a string of eight wins, the Central City Bison's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wood River. Central City was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Central City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ayden Zikmund. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Ruhl, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Central City's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-3. As for Wood River, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Central City won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Chanticleers at 3:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Ord will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Bison are ranked 25th). As for Wood River, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
