The Skutt Catholic SkyHawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Lincoln East Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lincoln East will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Skutt Catholic extended their winning streak to five on Monday. The SkyHawks put the hurt on Fremont with a sharp 8-2 victory.
Huston Beran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Joe Kolega was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Gage Guenther was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Skutt Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Lincoln East never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Lincoln Northeast on Monday. They blew past the Rockets 11-1. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won eight in a row.
Trevor Roach looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Joey Senstock was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter McPeak, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Skutt Catholic's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln East, their record is now 21-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Skutt Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lincoln East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Skutt Catholic might still be hurting after the 17-5 loss they got from Lincoln East in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the SkyHawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
