The Valley Vikings had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took down Wellington 47-29 on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Valley also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Leading Valley to victory were Peyton Savolt and Nevaeh Jimenez. Savolt scored 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Jimenez dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Savolt has scored at least a third of Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Christina Maestas, who scored seven points.
Wellington's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brookelyn Jones, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Morgan, who scored seven points.
Valley's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Wellington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Valley and the Reds will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Eaton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Wellington, they will head out on the road to face off against the Beetdiggers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Brush focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Thursday.
