The Berwick Panthers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 56-13 loss at the hands of St. James. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Berwick in their matchups with St. James: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Berwick lost, one person who can't be blamed is Namon Bennett. Despite the final result, he rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
St. James was led to victory by Kani King-young and Brayden Williams. King-young rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown, while Williams threw for 206 yards and five touchdowns on only ten passes. King-young really tore up the turf during one magnificent 92-yard run. Another player making a difference was Kobe Brown, who picked up 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Berwick has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for St. James, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Berwick will head out on the road to face off against Patterson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Louisiana (Patterson is ranked 186th, while Berwick is ranked 209th). As for St. James, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against E.D. White at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in E.D. White's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
