Momence had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Donovan Wildcats, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-8 last Monday.
Presley Hooper spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and nine unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Momence saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Cook, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Brooklyn Moeller, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Donovan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.
On Donovan's side, they also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Laylah Lou Walters gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Walters has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Madelyn Loy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Lily Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Momence will host Milford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Momence Athletics' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Donovan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hoopeston at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cornjerkers have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
