Santa Rosa has gone 9-1 against Tucumcari recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Lions will head out to square off against the Rattlers at 11:00 a.m. Santa Rosa will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Santa Rosa beat Texico 7-2.
The team relied heavily on Josiah Barela, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tucumcari got the win against Pecos on Tuesday by a conclusive 22-9. The Rattlers have beaten the Panthers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Tucumcari let Jadon Navarro and Pat Garcia run wild. Navarro got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Garcia went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Navarro is becoming a predictor of Tucumcari's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jase Aughtman, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Tucumcari was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .617. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Santa Rosa pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.9 runs. As for Tucumcari, their record is now 8-9.
Tucumcari's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Santa Rosa has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Tucumcari, though, as they've been averaging 11.9 hits. Given Santa Rosa's sizable advantage in that area, the Rattlers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Santa Rosa took their victory against Tucumcari in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
