The Avon Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Brunswick Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Midview hit Avon with a five-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell just short of the Middies by a score of 9-7.
Avon got a good showing from Ben Strichek, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Jason Gillespie was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Avon is 2-1 when Gillespie posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Robby Sykora, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Brunswick posted their closest win since April 26, 2024 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Medina 5-4. The win was nothing new for the Blue Devils as they're now sitting on three straight.
Brunswick also got a great performance from Ryan Maslyk as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Brunswick saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Wojtala, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Avon's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-8. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.25 runs. As for Brunswick, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Avon took their victory against Brunswick in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
