Waterville/Mansfield had to hit the road for their first game, and unfortunately the road hit them back. They were completely outmatched, falling 0-48 to Republic.
Meanwhile, Odessa took the game and then some with a 80-0 victory last Friday over Cusick. With Odessa ahead 48-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Odessa's win lifted them to 2-0 while Waterville/Mansfield's loss dropped them down to 0-1. In their win, Odessa relied heavily on sophomore Jett Nelson, who passed for 148 yards and 4 touchdowns; a key strategy for Waterville/Mansfield will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
