Phillips is 0-4 against Kenwood since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Phillips Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Kenwood Broncos at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Phillips focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Phillips was beaten by Curie 75-44. Phillips was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-22.
Phillips' defeat came about despite a quality game from Elijah Harris, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael White, Jr, who scored 7 points.
Kenwood has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 23 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Brooks 75-16 on the road. Given Kenwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Brooks is ranked 561st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kenwood can attribute much of their success to Christopher Riddle, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Edwon Duling, who scored 8 points.
Simeon's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Phillips' defeat dropped theirs to 3-2.
Phillips couldn't quite finish off Kenwood in their previous meeting back in February and fell 71-68. Can Phillips avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
