Climax-Scotts is 9-1 against Athens since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Climax-Scotts Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Athens Indians at 7:30 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Climax-Scotts and 14 for Athens.
On January 9th, Climax-Scotts came up short against Bellevue and fell 49-40. While losing is never fun, Climax-Scotts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 619th, while Bellevue is ranked 231st).
Athens suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 66-20 loss at the hands of Colon.
Despite the loss, Athens got a solid performance out of Heath Tigges, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Tigges scored 15 or more points.
Climax-Scotts has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Athens, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-12.
Climax-Scotts took their win against Athens when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 54-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Climax-Scotts since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
