The Wooster Colts are taking a road trip to challenge the South Tahoe Vikings at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Wooster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Wooster's offense. They came up short against North Valleys on Wednesday, falling 15-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Colts were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, South Tahoe waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Railroaders with a sharp 10-0 win. The Vikings' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four matches.
Cruz Hernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for South Tahoe: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 5-16 otherwise. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Kyle Herrera looked comfortable as he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Stone Chavarri, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
South Tahoe's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-17. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wooster, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wooster has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Tahoe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wooster took their victory against South Tahoe in their previous meeting on April 2nd by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
