The Lawson Lightning will square off against the Overton Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lawson gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet as they made off with a 22-8 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Lightning sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Lawson got a massive performance out of Makenzie Cotton, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave Cotton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joi Stewart, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lawson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Overton). They put the hurt on Antioch with a sharp 20-1 win on Thursday. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Kaliyha Finley-Gray made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Meacham was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Trista Norris was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles.
Overton pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lawson, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Lawson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lawson couldn't quite get it done against Overton when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-6. Will the Lightning have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
