In what's become a running theme this season, the Aquinas Blugolds gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They claimed a resounding 71-37 victory over Sparta at home. The win was just what Aquinas needed coming off of a 74-47 defeat in their prior contest.
Sparta lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gavin Rhead, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Owen Berendes, who scored seven points.
Aquinas' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-11. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.4 points per game. As for Sparta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.
Aquinas will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Onalaska at 7:15 p.m. Aquinas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Onalaska is ranked 43rd). As for Sparta, they will head out on the road to square off against Tomah at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Tomah and four for Sparta.
