The Stanton Buffaloes will take on the Denver City Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Stanton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Stanton's last matchup with Brownfield could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Buffaloes lost 11-3 to the Cubs. The Buffaloes haven't had much luck with the Cubs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Denver City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Crane an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Daniel Saldana's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andres Ornelas, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 12 games. Alan Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.
Denver City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Denver City pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Stanton, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Stanton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .509. However, it's not like Denver City struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stanton couldn't quite get it done against Denver City in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 6-2. Can the Buffaloes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
