The South Dade Buccaneers were the 42-17 winner over the Homestead Broncos when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. South Dade took a hard 51-35 fall against Homestead on Monday. While losing is never fun, South Dade can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Homestead is ranked 149th).
When it comes to explaining why South Dade lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lapatra Warren. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Genesis Aguilar, who scored seven points.
Homestead's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ardajah Fletcher, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Fletcher is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jayda Fisher, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
South Dade's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. As for Homestead, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Dade will take on Ferguson at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Homestead will be home for the holidays to greet Palmetto at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Palmetto focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Thursday.
